Serving the Community

Building on a background of experience

While personally soft spoken and modest, Gary Reese's record of service is rock solid. He was first appointed to the Board of Zoning Adjustment where he served for two years. Then, he served four years as a member of the City of Las Vegas Planning Commission. In 1995, Reese was first elected to the Las Vegas City Council.

Never missing a meeting

In all those years of service from 1989 to today, with all the meetings involved, Gary Reese has never missed a meeting and never been late. No one—no one—can match that record of reliability.

Revitalizing the neighborhoods

As a councilman, Reese has lead the effort to rebuild and revitalize Ward 3. The long list of city-made improvements runs from new street surfaces and speed bumps in residential neighborhoods, quicker graffitti removal, additional police patrols, stepped up code enforcement, rebuilt parks, new recreational facilities and expanded programs for children and seniors.

Practicing the Golden Rule

Just as important is Councilman Reese's approach to new development in Ward 3. His decision-making is guided by the Golden Rule of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Or, as Councilman Reese says frequently, "If a project isn't good enough for my neighborhood, then I'm not going to vote to put it into your neighborhood."

Giving residents a voice

That commitment to building better, safer neighborhoods is why Councilman Reese has worked to create neighborhood associations to help advise him and guide city decisions. Through these associations, formed with his help, neighbors have found new strength and a voice for their concerns.
